Welcome to the wonderful world of music!

K/1 Great job on your music program performance. I am so proud of you.  Thank you to Mrs. McDonald and NJHS for coming up with the decorations and to Mr. Roarty for running sound!
k/1 Decoration 

Highlights and Hoorays:
K-  We will be learning about high and low and the amazing woodwind instrument, the flute.
1 - In the next few months we will be learning how music can tell stories.  Our first discovery is with "Peter and the Wolf". 

2/3rd lab is polishing songs for their wonderful music program which will take place on Thursday, December 12th at 6:00 p.m.
4/5 Lab Discovering how composers use music to create emotion. We will also be having an assessment on the notes of the treble clef along with passing of the first three recorder songs.

6th- We continue our journey with Handel of the Baroque era.  We will experience his "Hallelujah Chorus" and his "Water Suites".
Modern Band - We will discuss the history of "Hound Dog"  which includes the use of 12 bar blues.  We will learn how to play these chords on the keyboard, bass, ukulele and guitar.  Students will break up into bands and perform for a grade.

This is my 16th year teacher at Excel Academy.  It has been a privilege to work in such a supportive and incredible community. I received my Bachelors in Music Education from Brigham Young University and completed my Masters at Kent State University where I graduated summa cum laude. I found my passion early in life with music and the performing arts and have continued to develop and enjoy these skills.  I have organized and participated in various choirs, orchestras, bands and benefit performances throughout my career. My performances have taken me throughout the United States and Europe.  I am also passionate about sharing the joy of music with my students. As a full time music teacher, I enjoy implementing proven methodologies in the classroom such as: Kodaly, Orff and Dalcroze for the total benefit of my students. I have written and presented music units at a locale and national level. I believe that music is a powerful and important part of education and developing the whole child. 

I am married to my high school sweetheart and we are the proud parents of five sons and three adorable grandchildren. Other hobbies include; family history, cooking, scrapbooking, camping, and traveling.
